Ashok Gadgil works at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He spends most of his time trying to help the people of Darfur. In 1998 he made UV waterworks. He's also working on ways to use common coal ash to remove arsenic from drinking water. He's won a few awards and is making companies that combine humanitarian and technological solutions.
He also made a stove. (from Popular Mechanics)
Oh yeah, he's on my list.
